Ships.com.ua is a free ship map, operated by HYCODER DIGITAL S.R.L. (Bucureşti Sectorul 2, Şos. Colentina, Nr. 16, Bloc A5, Apartament B44, Romania; "we"), which is responsible for the data described here. The whole site works without an account, and we don't set cookies.
What we collect
We count visits with Plausible Analytics, which uses no cookies and stores no personal data. It records things such as the page, the referring site, the country, the browser, device and operating system, and how long a page is read, and we only see them as totals. Plausible's data is processed and stored in the EU.
When you search for a vessel or open a link to one, we count the search and whether it was an IMO or MMSI number. Our statistics also keep the IMO numbers people search for, to learn which ships interest visitors, but they never record MMSI numbers, which can belong to private boats. None of this identifies you.
Our host, Vercel, processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver the pages, pass statistics to Plausible and protect the site from attacks. It may process this data outside the EU, including in the US, and for such transfers it states that it takes part in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and uses standard contractual clauses.
If you write to us, we use your email address and message only to reply. Our mail runs on Google Workspace, which may also process data outside the EU and for such transfers states that it takes part in the Data Privacy Framework and uses standard contractual clauses. We delete messages once they are no longer needed.
Embedded services
The live map is provided by VesselFinder and the MMSI search by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). They load in frames on our pages straight from their servers, so they receive your IP address; VesselFinder also gets the address of the page you are on and any vessel number you look up. VesselFinder's map also loads Google Analytics. Both services try to set cookies of their own (VesselFinder's include Google Analytics cookies). When we checked, Chrome blocked them, but other browsers may keep them. They handle your visit under their own privacy policies. We neither receive nor store ship positions ourselves: the VesselFinder map shows them.
Your rights
We process this data in our legitimate interest in running the site, keeping it safe, learning how it is used and replying to your messages. Under the GDPR you may ask what data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to its processing and, where it applies, receive it in a portable format. We keep almost nothing about visitors, so there is usually nothing to hand over. You can also complain to the data protection authority in your country.
Changes
If we change this policy, we update the date at the top.
